Lake Santeetlah and our private dock
Our own guest dock, down at the water, reached by walking down through the woods from the lodge. Kayaks, canoes and paddleboards are there for guests to take out, at no extra charge.
The walk down to the dock
The inn sits up in the forest, not on the shore. The dock is ours, down at the water, at the end of a walk down through the trees.
It means you get both. Up here there is the creek, the trees and a properly dark sky. Down there there is the lake with no other dock beside it.
The walk down is downhill on the way there and uphill coming back. Ask us when you book and we will tell you what to expect.
Boats for guests to borrow
Kayaks, canoes and paddleboards, tied up at the dock and free for guests to use. No hire desk, no hourly rate, no deposit.
The water is flattest early. A canoe on a still morning here is a forgiving place to try paddling for the first time.
Bringing your own boat
We can often arrange space at the dock, depending on the season and what else is tied up that week. Ask when you book and we will give you a straight answer while you can still plan around it.
If it is a no for your dates, there are public ramps nearby. The closest is a few minutes away.
Lake Santeetlah
Seventy-six miles of shoreline, and roughly four fifths of it is national forest.
That is why it does not look like most reservoirs. You can paddle for an hour and pass trees, a heron and very little else. The coves run back into the forest and stop, with no houses at the top of them.
The developed swimming beach and campground at Cheoah Point are open from mid April to the end of October.

Lake Santeetlah is drawn down through autumn and winter, which changes what paddling from the dock is like. If you are coming in late October with the water in mind, ask us first and we will tell you where the level is.
